2019 Business Breakfast a resounding success

Over one hundred people attended South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils’ annual Business Breakfast on 5 February, held at the De Vere Oxford Thames Hotel.

The annual South and Vale business breakfast is free to attend for local business representatives and interested parties, with typically over one hundred people attending each year to network and hear from local and national business leaders.

This year’s theme focused on the importance of finding the right premises and work space. The event was opened by Councillor Paul Harrison, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, who provided an update on the councils’ support for the local economy before introducing our two guest speakers.

Councillor Harrison said:

“Our business breakfasts have become very successful in providing updates and are an essential networking opportunity for local organisations.’

Bertie van Wyk from Herman Miller

Bertie van Wyk, a Wellness Advocate from the interior furnishings manufacturer Herman Miller, emphasised the importance of wellbeing in the workplace and how improvements can help organisations to become more productive, healthy and connected.

Herman Miller have pioneered a research-based “Living Office Discovery Process” that helps businesses create an office that better reflects who they are and what they do. At the event, Bertie discussed how social ergonomics interacts with cognitive and physical ergonomics to create a full human experience at work, showing that when we feel better, we work better.

Our second speaker was Chris Barnet, founder and Director of 1973 Ltd., a successful digital marketing agency based in South Oxfordshire.  Chris provided information on the challenges of a fast expanding organisation and tips on how to find the right location for businesses to deliver services locally, nationally and overseas.

Since 2004, 1973 Ltd have worked closely with global enterprise-level corporates, medium and small sized businesses, building a thriving, fast-growing business that delivers integrated campaigns that cross sectors and countries.
