2019 SVBA: Focus on the Large Business of the Year Award

What is the large business award?

The 2019 SVBA Large Business of the Year Award is aimed at businesses based in South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse,  with an annual turnover in excess of £10m. Applications for the award are open now, and close at midnight on 18 January 2019.

Why are large businesses important?

Large businesses are important to the local and national economies. Large businesses are able to create jobs, invest in R&D, innovate and help create supply chain opportunities for SMEs.

Who is sponsoring the award?

UK Top 100 law firm Royds Withy King is a large business itself, it has the combined expertise of over 500 staff across offices in Bath, London, Oxford and Wiltshire and is a founding member of the international network of independent law firms, Interleges.

The firm is proud to be ranked for the last five years as a Sunday Times 100 Best Company to Work for. Royds Withy King also received a three star ‘extraordinary’ accreditation from Best Companies in 2017 – one of just six UK law firms to have done so.

Why have Royds Withy King chosen to sponsor the Large Business Award?

Simon Bassett, Lead Partner, Royds Withy King Oxford, “We chose to sponsor this year’s Large Business of the Year Award because we wanted to recognise those organisations based in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse with similar attributes and ambitions as us.

The criteria for each award is different and for this particular award, the judges will be looking for evidence of a number of aspects including: business growth; a commitment to the local community including local job creation; an understanding of why the business is located in the area; and management with the ability to drive the business forward. These are all characteristics that we pride ourselves on at Royds Withy King and we are excited to be able to meet like-minded businesses and individuals with the same focus.

Oxfordshire is full of diverse and successful organisations and the South and Vale Business Awards provides a great opportunity for those organisations, and us, to learn from each other in order to continue to grow.”

Who won the award last year?

Milton Park based biotechnology company Immunocore scooped the Vale4Business version of the Large Business award in 2018.

The company was recognised for its ambition, significant growth, employee engagement and community outreach with STEM Ambassadors.

On receiving the award, Andrew Hotchkiss, Chief Executive Officer of Immunocore, said: “We are delighted to have been presented with this award, which reflects the great progress we have made in growing our business but also developing our ImmTAC (Immune mobilising monoclonal TCRs Against Cancer) technology.

We’re particularly pleased to have been chosen among such strong competition in this region, which is such a great hub for dynamic businesses like Immunocore. The unique combination of factors which have helped nurture so many businesses in the Oxford region have played a key role in Immunocore’s success and we’re proud to be a standard-bearer for the area.”
